Trent Christopher from the UMH community has developed a solution that allows users to browse tags stored in the UMH Historian directly within Grafana using TimescaleDB. This is especially beneficial for non-technical users who may not have access to the UMH Management Console but still need to interact with the Unified Namespace (UNS) efficiently.
Key Features
User-Friendly Tag Browsing: Enables non-technical users to easily browse and interact with tags stored in the UMH Historian through Grafana.
Comprehensive Tag Access: Displays all tags that are part of the “_historian” data contract, which are automatically saved in TimescaleDB within the UMH.
Dynamic Tag Tree Construction: Created a materialized view to build the required tree structure with specific ID, label, and parent schema, scheduled to refresh every 5 minutes.
If you’re interested in implementing this in your setup, here is the link with all the steps, including adding Materialized Views, Procedures, and Jobs to TimescaleDB, plus the JSON to import into Grafana.
