How to install OS from USB-stick by creating a bootable USB-stick and starting from it

💡
This tutorial demonstrates how to install k3OS from a USB stick. The same process can be used for Flatcar; to obtain the ISO image for Flatcar, refer to our main installation guide

Please note that k3OS is deprecated. We recommend switching to flatcar instead.

If you want to install an operating system on your device, you can use a bootable USB stick to do it. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it:

Prerequisites

  • A bootable USB stick. You can create one using the steps outlined in this Guide

Steps

  1. Plug the USB-stick into the device
  2. Reboot your device.
  3. Access the boot menu. The exact steps for accessing the boot menu may vary depending on the hardware you're using. Check your hardware manual for specific instructions. Alternatively, you can try pressing the following keys during boot-up: F1, F2, F11, F12, Delete. This may bring up the boot menu.
  4. Once you're in the boot menu, select the option to boot from the USB stick.

Your device should now boot from the USB stick, allowing you to install the operating system of your choice.
